Empathy, AI, and the Unexpected Lessons Behind the Dashboards
Data is everywhere in tech, but empathy? Not so much. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the metrics, dashboards, and deliverables and forget that there are real people behind the numbers. I’ve seen it: when we lose that human thread, our insights fall flat. Stakeholders disengage. Dashboards sit untouched in Tableau. And honestly, our work starts to feel a little disconnected. Add AI to the mix, and it’s tempting to believe the human element is being automated out.
But at the Tableau Conference 2025, I saw the opposite. Empathy was everywhere—from superhero selfies with robots to serious conversations about how we show up for our stakeholders. The takeaway? Emotional intelligence isn’t just a nice bonus. It makes your data work land, move people, and get used.
